This footwear is made using RECOS, a plant-based sustainable material derived from corn and produced in Mexico by Simil Cuero Pylmounth, a company specialized in environmentally responsible leather alternatives.
The material is engineered with three technical layers:
1. Base fabric: plain-woven structure made from post-industrial recycled cotton fibers and GRS-certified recycled polyester yarns sourced from post-consumer PET bottles.
2. Coagulated layer: provides body, dimensional stability, and structural support.
3. Coating/finishing layer: ensures durability, resistance, and the final aesthetic appearance.
RECOS delivers significant environmental efficiencies:
* Reduces energy consumption by 66.6% versus conventional synthetic materials.
* Repurposes approximately 8.2 PET bottles (600 ml) per linear meter.
* Saves around 12,000 liters of water per linear meter during production.
